As the game marks its 10th anniversary, fans continue to ask for more from the studio, hoping to see further expansion of its rich and sprawling fantasy world. With Ведьмак 4 on the way, featuring Geralt and Yennefer’s adopted daughter, Cirilla, a new chapter in the series is about to begin.
While I’m personally excited to see Ведьмак 4 in action, especially with Ciri’s evolving Elder Blood powers, I honestly didn’t expect CD Projekt Red to return to the series after the way the story ended.
More Stories to Tell?
When I rolled through the credits of Ведьмак 3: Wild Hunt, after setting up my retirement home in Toussaint, it felt like the end. It was the perfect conclusion and farewell to Геральт of Rivia’s journey. The characters were right where they needed to be, and with the Wild Hunt defeated, Цири had finally found the peace she deserved.
After that, I didn’t feel the need for more stories about Геральт or his extended family.
Цири is a strong choice for a new protagonist in Ведьмак 4, but I had expected someone completely new. A fresh character, unrelated to the books or previous games, could have offered a different lens through which to explore the Continent.
No Need for a Fourth Game?
A part of me was content with CD Projekt Red not making a fourth Witcher game. The trilogy ended on a high note. The world felt complete. We’ve already explored other parts of Sapkowski’s universe through projects like GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and the mobile title Rogue Mage, which brought a roguelike twist to the franchise.
Bringing back familiar characters for a fourth main entry might seem repetitive, but I’m still curious about how the studio will handle Цири story and what new ideas they’ll introduce.
New Villains?
With Eredin gone, there is room for a much larger threat in Ведьмак 4. Цири is free, wields the power of the Elder Blood, and can travel through space and time. She is a compelling figure, capable of world-altering feats. However, based on the cinematic trailer, CD Projekt Red may tone down her abilities. That might make sense, considering the weight of her sacrifice in Ведьмак 3.
A compelling new villain would grab my attention. With the Conjunction of Spheres triggered by Avallac’h at the end of Wild Hunt, we can expect serious consequences for the Continent. However, most of these new storylines now go beyond the scope of Sapkowski’s original books.
Overall, I’m excited for Ведьмак 4. But I’m perfectly fine with them stopping the series with Геральта story or featuring an entirely new character in its sequel instead. I’m excited for Цири, но возможно CD Projekt Red might add a secondary new character into the mix, someone that not even book fans are aware of.
