When Gears of War first launched in 2006 for the Xbox 360, there was one weapon that dominated the matches: the Lancer.
Well, it dominated at first because everyone wanted to use that chainsaw to cut down on unsuspecting enemies. Even playing through Gears of War: Reloaded, it’s still as much fun today as it was nearly 20 years ago.
Let’s be serious for a second, though. The реальные dominant weapon back then, as it is today, is the Gnasher shotgun. Those who have flashbacks to the «host advantage» know exactly what I’m talking about.
Newcomers to the Gears franchise are learning just how powerful the Gnasher can be. There’s no need to aim down the sights, no need to be up and personal with your opponent either; just get really, really good at blind firing, even at mid-range, and you’re golden. Well, you were golden, that is; The Coalition has released a new update that nerfs the Gnasher.
Gears of War: Reloaded’s Gnasher Shotgun Was Nerfed, And People Have Some Thoughts
The September 3rd update for Gears of War: Reloaded works on some stability improvements, as well as performance updates. Nobody is talking about that, though. Everyone is talking about the nerf to the Gnasher shotgun.
Based on community feedback, we’ve tuned the Gnasher:
- Reduced power at mid-range: Damage modifications: medium-range damage reduced by 15% — does not affect range damage.
- Bullet spread not as tight when aiming down sights: The Shotgun Pellet Spread when aiming down sights is now less tight when targeting compared to the launch version, but it is still tighter than the beta.
That’s not an inconsequential balance update to such an iconic weapon. As a result, people have some thoughts.
To say that this update is controversial is, well, an understatement. It’s a drastic change to a game with an established multiplayer metagame, and one that is ruffling feathers. People argue that the Gnasher is nothing like it was back in the day because of updates to Gears of War: Reloaded. To be honest, it did feel a little слишком powerful blindly firing from a midrange distance. Still, when you have an iconic part of Gears of War history that goes through a substantial change, there’s going to be a lot of opinions online on it.
