Peter Molyneux has been in the gaming industry for over four decades, but he’s not sure how much longer his career will be able to go on.
The creator of Fable spoke to Edge magazine (via GamesRadar+) about his upcoming game Masters of Albion and his future in the industry.
He’s 66 now, and he’s not sure he has it in him to continue making games after his new god game is finished.
If he holds himself to that, it will be the end of one of the most storied yet tumultuous game industry careers of all time.
“I Just Haven’t Got The Life Energy Left”

Game design can take a lot out of you, and Molyneux has only been feeling that more and more as he’s gotten older, to the point where he doesn’t think he can take it anymore.
“I know people are going to say, ‘Come on, it won’t be your last game,’” he says.
Molyneux has been known to take long breaks from the industry. He took a long hiatus after the controversial Kickstarter campaign and early access release of Godus back in 2012, and before Masters of Albion, all we’d seen from him was a stealth drop for The Trail: Frontier Challenge on mobile in 2016, with a PC release following a few months later.
But he sounds committed to being done for good after the release of Masters of Albion. “Everything that I’ve done… it just feels like this is the bet, you know?” he says. “I’ve put all my chips on the table.”
It’s also not the first time he’s speculated that Masters of Albion might be his last game.
Molyneux isn’t the only aging industry veteran who has the rest of his life on his mind, as 62-year-old Hideo Kojima revealed earlier this year that he’s got a USB flash drive full of game ideas that’s “kind of like a will” so his studio can keep working on his vision even after he’s gone.
Molyneux has stated that Masters of Albion is meant to be set in the Fable series’ Albion, even though he is no longer involved with the Fable series and can’t legally have them be directly connected.
Fable itself is still kicking, seemingly still in development at Playground Games even through the recent Xbox layoffs and a delay to 2026.
