Where to get a Pickaxe for breaking rocks.
Getting a Pickaxe in Winter Burrow is something you should aim to do first, as rocks will block your path to other resources that you’ll soon need to progress.
You will need to put in a tiny bit of work before you can get your first Pickaxe in Winter Burrow however, but it’s worth the effort as it will open up more areas for you to explore and materials for you to use. You’ll also be introduced to a rather amusing toad.

How to get a Pickaxe in Winter Burrow
To get a Pickaxe in Winter Burrow you need to bring Bufo five Pebbles and two Twigs. Of course, the first thing you have to do is actually find Bufo!
Where to find Bufo
You can only find Bufo after Aunty has been kidnapped by the Owl. To make this happen, you need to visit Aunty a few times after crafting things she’s told you to do. All we had to do was cook something at our oven in the burrow and craft one of the item recipes she gave us. Once you’ve visited Aunty enough after completing her lessons, the Owl will appear and snatch her up.
Once this happens, you can continue past Aunty’s house and across the bridge here to another area.
When you reach this area, follow the path to the right, then upwards to find an Abandoned Backpack with some Kindling in it. Collect this Kindling and add it to the firepit nearby to warm up.
From here, head north-east until you find an area that splits off between some shadowy trees. Follow the path through here.
You’ll now be at Bufo’s home and Bufo can be found working at their stone bench. Don’t worry, you won’t be affected by the cold here.
Collect materials for Bufo
Speak to Bufo who will task you with finding five Pebbles and two Twigs. You can find all of the items you need in the area outside Bufo’s home, the one you just passed through to get here. Remember, if the cold starts getting to you return to Bufo’s home or use the fire pit again.
When you’ve got the right items, head back to Bufo and give them over. In return, Bufo will give you a Sandstone Pickaxe! This Pickaxe is capable of breaking basic rocks like the ones blocking the path north of your burrow.
