Any Final Fantasy XIV player will tell you that glamour is the true endgame, and with the next major update, the glamour system will give them even more options to customize their looks.

Square Enix hosted a preview for the upcoming update 7.4 for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, titled Into The Mist, which will be launching on December 16.

As expected, the update will bring the next level of the standard-difficulty Arcadion raid series, the AAC Heavyweight Tier, with the Savage difficulty scheduled for January 6, 2026, thanks to feedback from last year’s December updates about high-level content potentially disrupting players’ holiday plans.

It will also bring the next portion of the main story, with the usual new dungeon and trial for players to fight through.

However, a much more unexpected (and fitting for Halloween) change is coming to the glamour system (via GameSpot), and players will no longer be restricted by their class, job, and level when picking what glamours they want to apply to their outfits.

Fashion enjoyers, this one is for you! From Patch 7.4 onward, you’ll be able to equip any glamours regardless of your class/job! ✨ Mix and match your favorite outfits and slay on the battlefield! 💅 [image or embed] — FINAL FANTASY XIV (@en.finalfantasyxiv.com) October 31, 2025 at 8:48 AM

In the current iteration of the glamour system, players cannot apply glamours of gear that they would not normally be able to equip for their current job and level; if you’re currently a White Mage, for example, you can’t apply gear specific to a Dark Knight as a glamour, or use crafter or gatherer gear as a glamour on a combat job.

When version 7.4 launches, those restrictions will be lifted, making glamours a true free-for-all. If you’ve always wanted to play a healer in full heavy armor instead of the typical robes and gowns, now is your chance.

This is the second major update in a row to be bringing a much-requested glamour update, after 7.3 added more hats for Viera and Hrothgar characters.

Unsurprisingly, the community seems pretty excited about this change, with some making jokes that the real reason why the next Savage tier is being delayed is so they have time to get their glamours sorted out, and others especially looking forward to using their crafter and gatherer gear on their main jobs.

Updates and new content have been coming fast for Final Fantasy XIV, with version 7.35 bringing a new Deep Dungeon and the Monster Hunter Wilds crossover questline just earlier this month, and a rerun of the Fall Guys collab coming just next week.
