Here are our recommendation for the best early-game Pictos in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33:
Ловкач
- Description: Gain 1 AP on Perfect Dodge. Once per turn.

Dodger is easily one of the best Pictos you get early in the game — as long as you’re good at dodging. This Picto grants 1 AP for a Perfect Dodge once per turn, making it a great way to get extra AP between turns. Apply it to a character with several high AP cost skills — my suggestion is Gustave. As this costs only one Lumina, it’s worth unlocking its Lumina early on and then using it as a Lumina rather than a Picto. It’s a great way to hoover up a single leftover Lumina later in the game, too.
If you’re not confident in your dodging abilities, I suggest picking up Dead Energy instead, which grants you 3 AP for each enemy you kill. While not very useful when battling one-on-one, this Pictos is great when you’re fighting two or three enemies. Simply pick off the weaker one with your aim to get the boost, then use all that extra AP to launch higher-damage skills at the last one.

You won’t pick up Attack Lifesteal immediately upon starting the game, but once you unlock it, it’s worth equipping to your most vulnerable character as soon as possible. This Pictos lets a member party recover 15% of their health when they use their base attack. It’s useful to have when you need a quick health boost (without sacrificing damage by using a Healing Tint) and also keeps your health topped up throughout a battle, as you should be using your base attack fairly regularly to top up your AP at this early stage of the game. I advise equipping it to the party member with the least health and defense, in our case, Sciel, as it helps keep them from being wiped out as quickly.

Most of the Pictos on this list are suitable for all your party members, but this one I recommend for Maelle (or Lune). On applying a Burn stack, Double Burn applies a second, which is particularly useful for dealing passive damage throughout a fight. This Picto made a real difference in the big boss battle at the end of Act 2, as I used Maelee’s Rain of Fire skill to deal fire damage/apply a fire stack, which Double Burn then added to. I was then able to use the Combustion skill, which consumes up to 10 Burn for extra damage, without worrying I was removing the fire damage.

This Picto is technically obtained late in the mid-game, but it can prove очень useful in the battle at the end of this Act — which takes place shortly after you pick it up, so equip it quickly. Second Chance lets a party member revive with full health once per battle, meaning you don’t need to waste any Revive Tints or AP on picking them back up if downed. Like the other Pictos on this list, I highly recommend unlocking the Lumina for this Picto so you can apply it to all your party members if you struggle with the next big fight. If you’d rather give it to just one party member, I advise equipping it to Sciel or the party member with the lowest health and defense.
Best late-game Pictos in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

You automatically get this Picto by defeating that big boss I mentioned above, and it’s crucial in Act 3. When equipped, Painted Power allows a party member to exceed the 9,999 damage cap, so you can deal some serious damage. As quickly as you can, unlock the Lumina for this Picto and apply it to all your party members. The end game is tough, and you need that increased damage cap; just ensure your party members have high-level skills and attributes to take full advantage of it.

Last — but certainly not least — is Gradient Fighter. This is a very late game Picto, but it can come in handy in the game’s final boss battle (and the challenging ones leading up to it). Gradient Fighter gives 25% increased damage with Gradient Attacks, making these powerful attacks even more so. Gradient Attack has a low Lumina cost, so you can apply it to everyone if you use a range of party members’ Gradient Attacks, but I primarily use Sciel and Maelle’s, so I applied it to Sciel to give her dark powers a boost.
If you don’t care much for Gradient Attacks, my honorable mention here is Augmented Counter 3, which gives a 75% boost to counterattacks — if you can land them.
