As you go through the different parts of Assassin’s Creed Shadow’s map, you’ll constantly get distracted by various side quests and activities. The map also feels a lot more lively because of these, and Kata is one of the most fun side activities you’ll find as it has multiple purposes.

Izumi Settsu Kata Locations

As you look up there, you can see two areas with the names: Goshiki Outlands and Shiotsu. As you explore the map between these areas, you’ll see a small pond, and the Kata is on the eastern side of this Pond.
Harima Kata Locations

Depending on the platform you’re playing, you’ll essentially have to press buttons in a specific order every time you perform Kata.
How Does Kata Work?

Each Kata teaches you combinations with different weapons, but you don’t have to equip these weapons. Once you start the Kata, it’ll automatically put the weapon in Yasuke’s hands and start giving you the commands after a bow. The commands for the Kata are divided into multiple groups.
Each group further has three to seven commands, and if you mess up even one of them, you’ll have to do the entire group again. So, if you mess up one of the starting commands, you can simply restart the group by using the button shown on the bottom left side of your screen.
The combinations shown by Kata can be quite useful when you enter a boss battle during assassinations, though they aren’t of much use outside of that.
The commands you get can range from the ing:
- Pressing the button when it appears.
- Pressing the button at a specific time as you see a circle going inward. You can press it as soon as the circle going in gets into the highlighted part.
- Holding a button for a certain amount of time.
Generally, the placement of certain buttons is fixed on the screen. For example, if you’re playing on a controller, you’ll always get RB/R1 on the top-right side, which helps you figure out which command you have just by looking at where it appears.
