How to find and complete the Chasuriyama Kofun.
Chasuriyama Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the many Kofuns you can explore on your journey. We highly recommend taking the time to do them, as they award you a valuable Knowledge Point (as well as other rewards) upon completion.
This specific Kofun is in Tamba which has a recommended regional level of 35 in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, if you stay away from enemies and ride your mount straight to the Kofun you should be able to safely complete it at any level.

Here’s our complete walkthrough for the Chasuriyama Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Step one — Use Naoe to enter
To complete the Chasuriyama Kofun you need to switch characters to Naoe, as she’s the only one that can fit through some of the gaps and you’ll need her grapple to explore the Kofun. So, even though either of them can enter, we recommend going with Naoe from the start.
When you’re at the entrance of the Kofun, head down the stairs and keeping following the path to the room with the sarcophagus in it. Keep walking past the sarcophagus and through the small gap in the wall behind it to get into the next part of the Kofun.
Step two — Find the first chest
Keep following the path forward until you come to a point where you can walk out onto a beam and dive down into a massive dark hole. Don’t worry, there’s water at the bottom here so there’s no risk of injury.
Surface from the water and keep following the path forward until you come to a gap that Naoe can’t jump across. At this point, look up and you should see a grapple point above you. Grapple to this and swing across the gap to the other side.
Then keep following the path forward until you come to another large gap with a large rock platform in the middle. Jump across to this then jump off the other side and continue moving forwards.
You’ll come to a small opening in the wall here near the floor, go prone to crawl through it.
On the other side you’ll come to a large body of water. Walk forwards to stand on the first wooden platform on the edge here and look up to find another grapple point. Use this to swing across to the small rock platform opposite you.
When you land on this platform, climb up the wall to the handholds here then follow the climbing path around to the left. When you can’t get any further, drop down onto the platform beneath you and continue to follow the path here.
You’ll almost instantly come to another grapple point, again use your grapple to swing across the gap here to the platform opposite you. Keep following the path forwards and you’ll come to a gap with a rope over the top of it. Walk along this rope and use it to jump across to the next platform.
Again, continue to follow the path forwards now. You’ll come to a corridor area lined by candles, keep going forwards but then stop by the fourth candle (it will be on your right). Look at the wall next to this candle and you should see a gap here that you can go prone to crawl through.
In the room this brings you to, you can loot the first chest.
Step Three — Find the second chest
Now come back out of that room and back into the hall lined with candles, then continue to follow the path forward and through a narrow gap in the wall.
Continue to press forward and you’ll come to an area with a large rock stack in the middle of it.
Use the large rocks here like stepping stones to make your way across the area, climbing up the large stack when you reach it and then jumping down to the middle part of this area (where the candle is on the wood.)
Stand on the wood platform with the candle on it then look to your right. Head to the right and follow the small path here to reach the chest on the raised ledge by the candle.
Step Four — Find the Assassin chest
Now head back to the wooden platform with the candle on it and look up, you should see a grapple point here. Use this to swing across to the platform opposite you. We found this easier by giving ourselves a slightly longer grapple line to elongate the reach of our swing.
Move forwards when you land and you’ll find another grapple point. You know what to do, swing across to the next platform and then climb up the wall to reach the next area.
In the middle of this area you’ll find a chest with an Assassin mark on it. You won’t be able to open it unless you’ve started the ‘A Blade in the Dark’ side quest.
Step Five — Find the Legendary Chest
From the Assassin’s chest head to the left and through a narrow gap in the wall. It may now seem like you’re trapped, but you can easily climb up the bumpy wall opposite you — so climb this to reach the next area.
When you’re at the top, keep following the path forwards as guided by the candles and you’ll reach the final, and largest, chest of the Kofun. Open this chest to complete Chasuriyama Kofun, and the chest contains the Scarlet Fate (Legendary Tanto), Impactful Attacks (Engraving), 1 Knowledge Point и 2000 XP.
Step Six — Exit Chasuriyama Kofun
To exit Chasuriyama Kofun, climb up the wall behind the Legendary Chest (there’s a lamp on the edge of it) and follow the path forward, then drop down to a lower area.
If you look to the left after you land you’ll see you’re back at the point where you dove off into the large black hole. Here, head through the opening on the right instead and follow the path here to retrace your steps back to the room with the sarcophagus in it, then continue following the path back out the Kofun.
